The Center for Immigrant Protection (CIP) was founded in 2015 by two immigration attorneys,
Okan Sengun, Esq. and Brooke Westling, Esq.
The Center for Immigrant Protection primarily delivers the LGBT Asylum Project.
The LGBT Asylum Project was created due to a critical need for accessible legal representation among vulnerable immigrant populations escaping violence and persecution in their home countries because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
The LGBT Asylum Project provides direct legal advice, counsel, and representation to immigrants that identify as LGBTQ+ and need assistance to submit and process their affirmative asylum application.

The LGBT Asylum Project was by public vote as the "Community Organization Grand Marshal" of the 50th Anniversary of San Francisco LGBT Pride in 2020, with a record-breaking number of votes!

The LGBT Asylum Project is proud to fiscally sponsor PARIVAR Bay Area
To better serve the Trans and Gender Non-Conforming (GNC) Community
The LGBT Asylum Project is working to make sure that the Transgender and GNC community knows our services are here, available for them because if a transgender or GNC person is represented in their asylum cases, there is a good chance that they could win their case. We want to make sure that all TGNC asylum seekers have access to our services.
In 2020, The LGBT Asylum Project took one step further by partnering with Parivar as their fiscal sponsor. This partnership will help us to make sure that the services of The LGBT Asylum Project are accessible and within reach especially for TGNC folx
“I have watched first hand how some asylum officers are still confused by GNC folx and, as a result, their cases suffer. Hence, I am determined to change this and very proud of our great partnership with PARIVAR.” - Okan Sengun, Co-Founder and Executive Director of The LGBT Asylum Project.
